Why isn't this perceived as 'flex time'? It could be a more flexible way to have the same number of hours of learning/education per week. Of course, the unions representing teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria , Security, support staff etc would have to be involved. Actually, I think something similar is presently offered in North Carolina but the reason has nothing to do with saving taxpayer money on utility bills. That area has the same number of days or hours per year but is on a 'cycle'. For instance, the sibs of the same family have school Mon. - Fri. September - June but the sibs from Family 2 has school Mon. - Fri. January - October. The goal of this has nothing to do with saving taxpayer money on utility bills but addresses major overcrowding.

This is the kind of things you get when governments control education. Priorities are never aimed where they're ACTUALLY needed.

I can think of nothing more stupid than to limit the time our young have for education. I have always had a problem with the way our money is distributed, but this just takes the cake.

Tomorrow I promise to only start happy notes and post happy clips. I'm getting depressed by the stupid people.

Just as brilliant as schools that eliminate Phys Ed but keep Fountain Sodas and Fried foods on the school lunch menus.

One of the pioneers of the four-day week, the Cimarron, New Mexico school district, is looking to cut energy costs by getting back to its roots.

Cimarron Public Schools moved a four-day week when energy prices shot up in the early 1970s, but has become more "complacent," letting the heating and cooling systems run even during the day off since the end of the OPEC oil embargo, Cimarron's superintendent James Gallegos said.

So much for the rising costs being the reason....

To me there HAVE to be other areas that can be cut back first before slicing and dicing their education.

Ditch the organic Apples... stop buying soda... cut back on recess monitors who's sole job is to curtail actual fun during recess.

Does this even make sense to anyone? Cutting fuel costs at the expense of an education and adding a burden to the parents? You would think there are some smart people working in our school districts that can do a better job of problem-solving before they go into something extreme like this.
