Do you sell items on your site?

I read this morning James' (Leihu) limited edition T-shirt offer is about to expire, 9rules sold out of the pins, and other 9rulers had/have stores. If you have a site do you sell things with it? Was/is it successful? Do you have tips for those who might be interested in doing it? What would you buy and what's the most you'd spend for it?
With my move coming up, I haven't been purchasing much of anything. The thought of one more thing to pack....

I may be getting into the product selling business... Any tips would definitely be welcome. For me, the biggest headache is getting a decent shopping cart system set up. (And yeah, I know all about Shopify, damnit! haha)

There are some cool plugins for wordpress if that is your platform of choice. Also check out zencart for an all purpose open source application. If you would like others, I will dig out a resource list for you, thats just all I can remember now :0)
If you are going to sell stuff on your site, just keep in mind, "what value am I adding for my reader/customer/etc." Why will they want to buy your stuff? Personally, I like T-shirts and things that sponsor sites. Something a bit out of the ordinary, but cool nonetheless.

Once in a while I've sold things via my site but I don't run a full blown shop. That's not the purpose of my current site.
If I have something to sell, I'll just do a post with a picture and details of what I have to sell and ask for people to contact me if they're interested.
I've had a lot of success selling things via craigslist and ebay over the years and just put a link on my site in a post to the auction or ad.
I do have some shirts that I've designed recently and some stickers which I plan on selling via my site but again, it won't be a main feature.
