Tyme is having problems playing the video but it's working for me, is it working for you guys?

Funny you mention this movie. I watched it last night and just posted my thoughts on it.

It's a real eye opener of a movie for sure.

Definitely because I get the "video not available" message. It's up on just about every torrent site though.

It's a human issue which if more politicized might actually get solved. Sadly to say there is nothing taken care of in this country unless in some way a politician can benefit from it like they do from ignoring it.

Well like Moore says... all the facts in his movies are true!

Be careful taking this or any of his movies at face value and using it without proper research. Moore is famous for leaving key bits of interviews on the cutting room floor and staging scenes for 'dramatic effect'.

It's quite a stretch to call him a 'documentary' filmmaker.

Eeesh, I'm kind of cringing at the idea of everything what Moore says is true. What does Moore do besides interview? Edit. What is editing? Context. And context is really everything... It's Hollywood still, you know.

As usual Moore is a sensationalist and good at twisting facts to fit his side... but this time I disagree with him less than ever before.

A lot of insurance companies are flat crooked. So are a lot of doctors. So are a lot of drug makers. Not all of them, but there's a lot of abuse going on, and the systems we have in place are rather easy to abuse if you're big enough and have enough lawyers.

My wife and I have personally been at the bad end of insurance shenanagins. We even consulted legal council who told us that we could fight it and win, but it would cost us more time and money than the issue was worth.

I have no idea what the answer to all the crap is, but you've got to remember that despite all of our problems we have one of the healthiest nations in the world. We also have some of the best technologies and doctors. Letting the government run it is never a solution, just look how well they run simple programs like drivers licensing? It's a joke.

You cannot use 9rules to distribute, or post illegal items or information or post to sites that engage in those activities.

At the risk of ruining a good party, doesn't the above link represent copyright infringement? I realize that Micheal Moore has publicly stated his opposition to current copyright laws, but Lionsgate/Weinstein Co holds the release rights and claims this is piracy.

Interesting that Moore loves the idea of "free" healthcare but isn't willing to publish his information "freely".

Guess it's nice to have a freebie when you're not losing money on the deal. (not like taxpayer funded healthcare is a winning solution for my wallet by any means)

That's not saying much if you're comparing us to impoverished or developing countries.

And it's especially embarrassing when you factor in how much we're spending on health care. We spend more than any other industrialized country, and what do we get for our dollars? We're among the worst health-wise among industrialized countries.

Of course, ad hominem arguments like this one are substantively irrelevant and logically invalid (i.e. they tell us absolutely nothing about the truth or usefulness of Moore's film).

But besides that, the above is a false statement. Moore would love to distribute the work freely, it's the studios (Lionsgate & Weinstein) who are concerned about copyright. So get your off-topic ad hominem misdirection correct, please.

I followed up on it because apparently you took offense to a comment aimed at someone I personally dislike. I haven't seen the film so until I do (if I do) I'll leave the point by point analysys to those of you who wasted your time sitting through it.

But that's the thing, your comment obviously wasn't made in jest. You admit yourself you're prejudging a film you haven't seen and personally dislike the director, so why should we take your accusation of hypocrisy on his part as a joke?

Geez, man, either stand up and defend your accusations for what they really are, or don't make them; but quit being coy and slippery.

No more comments from me on this, I just see a lot of your unsubstantiated, irrelevant "jest" rhetoric on these comment boards, and am kind of sick of it.

I have seen his previous works of "docudrama" and I HIGHLY doubt he's taken a turn for the "bipartisan" angle given his success with political spin. I'm simply voicing my opinion based on my previous experience with his 'work'.

I'm sorry if you don't like my personal opinions or the way they're presented here... but I'm not making you read what I have to say.

Actually the reason I put this video up here is because Michael Moore said he had no problem with people viewing this movie before it's introduced into theaters. He was quoted as saying he doesn't care if it is pirated as long as no money is made from the pirated movie (aka, burning a DVD and selling on the street for $10) and that's a stance I applaud.

The video is not sitting on our servers, and if the Weinstein company makes a copyright claim to Google the video will be taken down on their end and then no longer available here. Since the video is still up I can only conclude that either the Weinstein company did not make a copyright claim on this particular version (there are dozens up on Google Video), or Google has simply not complied with it yet and the video could go down at any moment. Either way, make sure to watch it as soon as you can :)

First of all, anything you see or read comes from a human with bias. Moore takes a position and builds the story around that position. I fail to see how that's wrong?

Except, as the film states, you have other govt run institutions like the Post office, fire and police departments. To say that any govt run institution is bound to be useless is quite the stretch. Also, as the film shows, other countries have managed govt-run socialized health care. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I live in Canada and I've had 5 surgeries. What did it cost me? Nothing. Mind you, I had to wait 2-6 months to get scheduled but none of it was life threatening. Hospital stays also tend to be short (all of my surgeries were day surgeries and I was home before the end of the day). Sure, I pay higher taxes. Sure, the cost of living is higher in Canada. But I'm not hurting financially. I have a car, a family, a home. I really have no complaints (oh, except it gets cold in the winter...c'mon global warming!)

I have a friend in canada that has been on a waiting list for a heart surgery for five years. She ended up getting it done in the states because her life was in danger. She says that this is not uncommon... but thats just her experience, I Don't know first hand.

I have a couple very close friends in England, who say their healthcare system is "bollocks." Their words, not mine. They say everyone pays a lot into it and no one gets much out of it.

Just a side note, I love seeing Right On get into discussions like these :)

A good thing, I agree with you 90% of the time, and you have a way of wording things that just kills me.

@Ozone42: and that's just the thing. There's always a way to look at a situation and find the good or bad in it. I don't think anyone can use blanket statement and say that govt-run health care won't work, though. If the majority of the country believes in socialized health care, then go for it. If not, then so be it.

That's just the thing. My biggest beef with socialized medicine (at least in the US) is that it's sold to the public as FREE healthcare and "we the people" eat it up... without thinking who PAYS for the FREE-ness.

If they want to pump socialized medicine then I want someone up there telling me the benefits as well as how much my taxes are going to go up.

Last time I checked, not too many people like paying taxes and when you tell them you're gonna spike them to "give" them something, they tend to be less interested in your ideas.

Either that or you tell them you're only gonna stick it to richie and they prop you on a pedestal ;)

That's my main beef. I'd rather pay for my healthcare instead of everyone else's.

I mean, I have absolutely no confidence that our government could pull off an organized, fair, efficient health insurance system, but even if they could you'd have the very wealthy paying for the health of the very poor, that is unless they rework taxes completely as well.

Don't even get me started on that! Everything would have to be reworked, correct me if I'm wrong, but in countries w/ free healthcare, other things like gas prices are sky high, a lot more then our $3.60 a gal. I have a friend who said he easily pays over $100 to fill up his car... car not SUV

That is certainly a more liberal interpretation of the code of conduct than I have come to expect in 9rules notes. By this logic, would it be ok to post a note linking to copies of pirate software or other films? I've got some great links to other new releases that people might be interested in! Or, is this a one time only Mike special privilege sort of thing?

While watching the movie with Mike last night (while talking on IM) I couldn't help but ask "what's the catch?" because Moore painted a beautiful world of free health care for all. The movie is a jolt and has the desired affect of "shocking" the viewer but nothing is perfect. What it did is leave me with more questions.

We're not distributing (I don't have access to the actual video file at Google's servers), we're not posting anything illegal, nor are we linking to a site that deals in illegal activities since Google Video is obviously not disseminating kiddie porn here.

Like I said, the video is up on Google's servers getting thousands of views, and if it's pulled from their servers then it will not be available here. Until that happens, I have no problem showing it in 9rules Notes.

Google is very good about removing questionable and copyrighted materials.

Seening as it is still veiwable either they're VERY backed up, or they have not received a copyright request from the likes of Lionsgate / Weinstein / Moore.

It is because of the universal Canadian medical system that I'm alive and Cancer-free today. For those asking what the catch is, the answer is easy: <b>Income taxes</b>. I've been offered jobs at US universities and government labs before and I've always turned them down because of my concern over a lack of universal health care. There isn't much chance that I'd be approved for medical insurance after having leukemia twice. I've lived in Canada, the UK, and a few months in Germany and I've always been happy with the medical care I've received. I won't even enter the US without additional medical insurance.

See, and I veiw income tax as theft so...

As a 9rules owner, I'm sure your position is both well reasoned and well researched. Do keep in mind that knowingly and intentionally directing others to a site that violates copyright has been considered a form of contributory infringement in the US (the precedent is Intellectual Reserve v. Utah Lighthouse Ministry).

I should add that there have been more recent cases, (Ticketmaster Corp. v. Tickets.com, Inc and others) that attempt to clarify whether linking is actually contributory infringement. I'll leave it to the lawyers to debate, but (personally) I think you know you right from wrong.

We pay significantly more as has already been noted - almost unconscionable fees as as was seen in that film even with insurance there is no guarantee of decent health care which will not break the bank

Our health care system is ineffective in providing consistent care over time to the population of the country despite some of the most advanced technology on the world. The insurance industry along with the government on every level is complicit in this.

If anything this should get some people to look at where we have become, and what we might want to start demanding from out representatives.

For the greatest country on earth we are unhealthy, fat, uninsured, get poor health care if any, are represented by crooks in a nepotic government.

I do not believe there is any kind of utopia of health care possibility here. I see Moore as semi - crazy at times but face it if he says what you want to hear you like him, if he says stuff you don't like he is editing. Of course he edits. everyone edits to fit their agenda.

If anything this should get some people to look at where we have become, and what we might want to start demanding from out representatives.

I think you'll find it has a lot more to do with the lack of a concept of personal responsibility than it does with our healthcare.

You want a good example of government efficiency? Go take a plane somewhere and tell me how enjoyable and efficient they were.
