A man is being forced to pay for a child that is not his.

He has a DNA test that says he is not the father. The mother said he's not the father and requested that the obligation for child support be removed. Yet, he is still responsible. Why? He missed the deadline to challenge paternity. Why? He got the paperwork after the deadline passed. WTF?

But of course accepting the money from a man you know is not the father is despicable to me. The court is forcing him to pay it, give it back to him!

Then there is another case where a man thought his daughter was his, paid $80K, found out he wasn't, was relieved of the obligation but couldn't get the money back because it's not against the law to lie about paternity?

Ok, why isn't it? We have the technology this cut this crap out and there is no reason for this to happen anymore. A woman definitely knows she slept with multiple people and she should be held accountable since she's the only one that "really" knows the truth.

In these cases the real fathers aren't being held responsible. I don't see what the problem is, why this is so difficult. Not the father, not obligated. If a man wants to pay for a child that is not his, fine - send the money directly to the mother by check for a paper trail. The courts need not be involved because he isn't the father and has no real rights to the child. The real father does.

Is it me or are they making this way more complicated than necessary? There are so many families that really need help focusing on families that don't doesn't make sense to me.

The legal system is bass ackwards in this country...

My biggest beef outside of things just making NO sense like those cases in your rant, are cases which have ZERO reason to even be heard.

Like a 500lb. man suing a fast food restaurant because that's all he ate for 45 years and it made him fat. - STUPID

Or these two ladies in New York that are suing Toy's 'R Us for a combined total of $400 MILLION dollars because they felt that they were subject to a racist policy when the door 'guard' asked for their receipt so he could verify their purchases. - STUPID

I think one of the biggest concepts that could go a long way towards repairing our broken down legal system would be a loser pays system so that people like those mentioned above lose big time when filing for their own warped version of reality.

In cases like what you mentioned Tyme I'd have to say there needs to be a MAJOR overhaul in those folks that sit up front in the black dresses. We seem to have FAR too many people who aren't cut out to judge others, who think they're God.

Anyone have an axe?

It's called laws not keeping up with the available science, and the word of the law being held over the spirit of the law. And of course, the complete lack of common sense for the sake of "fairness" to others (again, word vs. spirit).

Completely despicable indeed.

I agree with Gnorb. It's like in the disney movie Aladdin, where the whole plot of the movie revolves around the Sultan not realizing he can change his own laws.

It seems to me that having morals and ethics and leading a good life are about doing the right thing, even if nobody is watching.

In all the examples you've given, citizens, lawmakers, bureaucrats, and judges have ignored these basic values of decent society.

Added to DavidBB's comment: "... doing the right thing even if there is no reward or consequence".
We have a legal system waaaay out of control and I sure would be more comfortable if it worked well for most people even sometimes. If it does, I need that as well publicized.

Let's get a big group together, buy some land, an secede.

Would we need a 9rules member attorney to buy real estate???

You guys need to force your judges to wear wigs!
