Where's The Result Talk?

Weird to notice that is no ongoing discussion here about the election result, for the record I voted Obama in my head since those pesky federal laws wouldn't let me actually vote! ;o)

Watching the right wing blogoshpere implode has been fun over the last week or so. I've read that the USA as we know it is done for as Obama and his Marxist henchman roam the land looking for people to give free money to straight from the pockets of hard working, non tax paying, non-plumber, country and western singers.

Some ex-dj, right wing hack, is making a lot of noise about the most blatant push poll in history and got spanked by Nate Silver which is fun to read if you have the time.

Read on 538.com

Palin 2012 sites are up hawking baseball caps and t-shirts as the left eggs them on praying that they make it so. I'm betting 80% popular vote in 2012 for Obama if that happens!

I'd just like to say, on behalf of my European brethren, a hearty Thank You to you guys for voting an intellectual, well spoken, good guy into office who actually does some critical thinking before rushing into things. A good man can be the President of the United States. Maybe he'll be nice and pardon that crook from Alaska (no, not Plain, Stevens, the older more wrinkly one!)

Stay Slippy!

ps: if any republicans/pretend non-republicans are thinking of moving to Europe you are more than welcome. we're pretty relaxed on the whole immigration thing here but be warned, we have high taxes and overachieving schools so you might not be too happy here! ;o)

If Election Day was a federal holiday that people had off so they had plenty of time to take care of the votes then I can see them taking it away. As it stands now it is needed and yeah there is opportunity for some foul ups, but also time to catch ones as well.

As of right now I'm for it. Nothing worse than for someone to be turned away the only day they can vote and not seek justice in time to get their vote in.

On the other hand, it opens up the voting process to eligible voters who might not be able to make it to the polls on Tuesday due to any number of reasons.

Frankly, I think the voting day should (a) be moved to a Saturday and/or (b) be made into a national federal holiday, in order to ensure that the largest number of people are able to vote in one day. Additionally, provisions should be put into place to make it easier for people to vote remotely (ie, the job traveler, the bed-ridden).

Maybe there are so many people early voting the lines on Tuesday will not be so bad. I am still glad I voted and am glad I had the option to vote early. What do you think about early voting?

It's true I don't clearly understand this mess either. It seems there's enough responsibility for many thousands of people and systems. The part that is a source of shame to me is what the process will likely mean to the next two generations. My elderly parents who are not risky financial people at all and bought their home decades ago lost several thousands of their retirement dollars of stocks. This was money they saved, one dollar at a time. They were children in the Depression and it was a leap of faith for them to trust banks.

Well, I was optimistic, thinking neither of them could be that bad, and how influential is a VP anyway. I mean most of our VP's over the past few decades have simply been party men, casting the tie breaker votes as you'd expect.

After listening to that shit last night, I'm appalled. They're both lying, hypocritical, manipulative children.

When I heard all the position switching in 2004, it was funny. It was flip flopping. It was not good, certainly, but had a comical element to it. This year whenever I hear either candidate talk I just hear lies. I'll vote this year, but it's not going to be for a main party, I find them both slimy, dishonest, and downright disgusting.

I think she'll do fine, because she'll likely have some kind of cribsheet where she can organize her talking points.

Yes, she's kind of dense (as someone with a journalism degree who couldn't name any newspapers she reads) but part of the reason she tanked her first few interviews, I believe, was because she was asked questions she didn't anticipate about topics she hadn't been briefed on. It's pretty clear by the buzzwords she uses and the way she recites things that her knowledge beyond the scope of Alaska has been fed to her by the campaign.

As for Biden, I agree that he's got a big catch-22, but I also think this bullshit double-standard isn't doing us ladies any favors. I think if you want to be regarded as someone who can "hang with the boys," you have to withstand the treatment they give each other. When I go out with my guy friends and we do shots, they don't say "We'll have Jager, but give Jen a lemondrop because she's a girl." Hell no! Gimme the hard stuff!

Unfortunately if he was debating someone like, say, Hillary, I'm not so sure we'd be hearing this bully meme. I think he should say up front, "look, I'm not going to speak any differently than I would if it were Mitt Romney or Tim Pawlenty or whoEVER at that podium – to act otherwise would be disrespectful to Gov. Palin, because I believe in equality." Or something along those lines.

I think many people are expecting far less from Palin than they're going to get. Even Obama acknowledges that, based on her previous debate experience, she is very good at debating.

This VP debate is very structured unlike sit down interviews so I think she will do fine.

I think Biden will do fine as well. My only thing is that if he gets abrasive and hard hitting it could leave him open for criticism from Palin supporters and defensive women for being mean. So who knows.

Article19: She might not tank at all depending on how freaked out they have Biden on how he has to handle her so they won't all come out screaming sexism. She should be able to take hard questions and I don't anticipate she will answer them well (if they actually present her with any), but she is a charming women and she only needs to charm a few middle of the roader's who can be swayed easily and don't seem to care that she in a feather away from being president. Biden has only to have an attitude. Where i wish the debate will be about the issues I'm afraid it will be about the attitude.

"just accept it, lower taxes, better health care, more stable economy, people actually liking your country, maybe, no more war in Iraq, etc, etc."

I think you are looking far down the road for that, don't for a minute think all the problems from the last two terns are going to disappear overnight, if ever. It is going ot be a suck presidency for which ever candidate wins.

I also agree Pelosi has been a horrible speaker and has to go. She has no idea how to get people to work together, something she should have done to save the trillion dollar loss in the market after the bailout failed. a trillion dollar loss which cost hundreds of thousands of retirees or those near retirement a lot of their retirement money. Money they will not be able to recoup.

There are ways to do an emergency bail-out, and set it to be changed within weeks, and that bail-out should have been done. Congress put politics before something which they should have done. I think there are times when your elected officials have to ignore what you have to say because you don't know enough about it and this was one of those times.

Judging by his petulant performance at the debate McCain was lucky Obama nixed the idea of 400 town-halls (or however many he wanted).

The coming Palin debate train wreck is only going to make the tickets poll numbers tank even more, if she doesn't quit before then just to get out of it!

I want a political leader that is skilled at multitasking. If North Korea makes movement in the nuclear sphere and simultaneously there are publicised investigations of horrible vet hospital conditions, the country has a horrific winter with the cost of oil, a part of Africa has a drought that millions are dying for lack of food and charter school national scores drop compared to inner city schools as well as the UN planning strategies about global warming and the Middle East in crisis------I want to know on a cellular level that my country has a leader that can respond to all of them. Not one of them. Not barging into folks already working on one of them.

Regulation which were in place not follow and a huge warning sign around 18 months ago ignored.

I am understanding the banks actually gambled by giving loans with no margins, evidently before my time there was a twenty percent down rule which decreased the margin significantly thus lowered the gamble. They did the same thing with credit, no longer requiring proof of being able to pay, I mean giving credit cards to people with no means of income is not just the fault of the person with no income it is the fault of the institution who is putting public money at risk.

Everything I've read says there were regulations which were not followed
there were a lot of OTS regulators laid off over the past 5 years, so in that regard the eye was off the ball, the regulations though did not give full transparency.

I admit to finding this whole thing extremely confusing, and the more I read on it the more confusing it gets. Though my grandfather was a banker and I am sure he is rolling over in his grave about now.

The debate between two men that are going to end up running this country, with only a few weeks to go until that decision is made is certainly important.

He does this kind of thing all the time, ( Iowa's floods and Gustav) both of which when told to stay away from because it would cause chaos , even Republicans find it a bit appalling, but it still may work for him if the people believe it was not for political gain.

He also didn't really suspend his campaign, he brought his campaign staff to the White House meeting...Obama at least brought his Senate staffers not his campaign publicity people. I am guessing here, but I imagine if you are serious about doing your Senate work for your constituency you bring your Senate staffers, not your campaign staff.

I think he had no intention of not debating. This was just another ruse. One that may or may not work depending on the outcome of all these talks on the money.

I am interested in seeing the debate though originally I think it was supposed to be on foreign policy, so I'm not sure if they will still do that.
